Fun fact of the day: Sofia Vergara’s 18-year-old son, Manolo, is adorable. Another fact: Spanish-language tabloids are kind of creepy when it comes to interviewing mothers about their teenage children.

You may recall that TVnotas interviewed Niurka and her 13-year-old daughter, Romina, about how to best set up one’s child for disordered eating and how Niurka wants Romina to give her the blow by blow the moment she loses her V-card. Hahasob.

Now, TVyNovelas is asking Sofia whether Manolo gets jealous that men think his mom is hot. “Why yes,” she responded, idly puffing on a cigar. “My son does subconsciously want to sleep with me. And he suffers from castration anxiety.” CHOMP.

No. She answered that Manolo sees her as a crazy old lady, not a hot piece of ass. She then told a charming anecdote about her son encouraging her to audition for Chicago even though she was scared. TVyNovelas by asking whether Manolo was jealous of her boyfriends. Dudes! Damn.

Then they asked how she’d prepared him for life, specifically when it comes to drugs and sex. (Do you notice a pattern?) Sofia said that she had Manolo at such a young age (18), the two have had to do a lot of growing up together and have always been able to talk openly with one another.

Have any of you also noticed Spanish-language weeklies to be more sex obsessed than their English-language counterparts? It seems that magazines like Us Weekly and inTouch are all about material things and body issues, whereas TVnotas and TVyNovelas are all about sex and relationships and more sex and then some large boobs and some sex, also. Is it a self-enforcing stereotype?

I noticed that. I said, what are all these boobs doing here? Isn’t this supposed to be a women’s magazine? I was told, “sex sells, they want male customers too.” Just watch the Telenovelas and the comedy shows.

  2. im so immature i giggle when i hear her name

  3. We tried to donate magazines at the hospital my brother works at, in English and Spanish, for the people to read while waiting in the ER or while their stay at the hospital, well the Spanish magazines were sent back because they were too sexually explicit! not even the library would take them! I had to go to a recycling center and pay 25 dollars to have them recycled, and we stopped buying them because my niece, who is 7 is asking why all those people are naked!
