This Day In Latino History
19 June 2009, 9:00 AM. By Cindy Casares
On this day in 1867, Maximilian I of the Mexican Empire–who was named Emperor of Mexico by Louis Napoleon, the nephew of THE Napoleon– was executed by a firing squad in Querétaro, Querétaro. It seems no one was really buying that Emperor of Mexico thing. Least of all the United States who likely paid for his execution. (Don’t get Hugo Chavez started!) Maximilian was Austrian-born and he had a great career in the navy, but nowhere near as great as his career of growing fur on his face. That shit almost beats Dracula’s. Rumor had it that he was actually the illegitimate bastard of Napolean II, which would have made him and Louis brothers. Obvs, this is why he sent that mofo to get his ass walked off a plank, figuratively speaking.

I am totally growing my beard like Maximilian. Look at that! It’s like a long haired tabby cat with a part.
