British Orthodontists Unhappy With Ugly Betty, Joke Writes Self

The British Orthodontics Society is upset with Ugly Betty because they feel the series promotes an unflattering image of adult orthodontics. We should only show adults with teeth like shiny gargantuan chiclets, gleaming under the flash of cameras.

The British orthodontists point out that adults are rarely ever made to wear braces and, when they are, it is never for more than two years - unlike Betty, who has been rocking the metal-mouthed monster look for about three years now. We find it more unbelievable that Betty wouldn’t have trimmed her heinously awful little cerquillito in three years, really.

Orthodontists also worry that Betty’s terrible ugliness will also dissuade younger people from seeking unnecessarily straight teeth of their own. The say it is, in fact, “irresponsible of the programme makers to portray Betty as ‘ugly’ because she wears prominent braces.” 

Call us Silly Eugenia, but isn’t the point of the show that Betty is not ugly and it is the attitudes of those who look down on her that are truly ugly? Yes, no?
