Why Wait?: Danielle Deleasa And Kevin Jonas Are Engaged

Kevin Jonas, the eldest of the Jonas brothers at the ripe old age of 21, has become engaged to his girlfriend of two years, 22-year-old former hairdresser named Danielle Deleasa. How is it possible that a 22-year-old can be a former anything?
He reportedly took a red eye flight from Vancouver to Danielle’s home state of New Jersey to pop the question. Dude!!!1! Skyping it would have been easier lol :).
Because their son is still teething, the engagement announcement was written up on the Jonas Brothers’ MySpace by Kevin’s parents:
Our hearts are filled with joy today and we are happy to share with you that our son Kevin has asked Danielle Deleasa for her hand in marriage. Her answer was yes and it is such a blessing that she will be joining our family. Kevin and Danielle have not yet set a date. Family is very dear to us and we hope we have raised Kevin to be a wonderful man and husband. Please join us in our families celebration and in congratulating Kevin and Danielle. Thank you for all of your support.
This joyous news has also brought to our attention the least romantic couples’ picture ever:
Really? Ugh.
So, why do we care? We just wonder what the impact of a celebrity marrying so young might have on his impressionable fans.
According to one website dealing with Latinas and relationships, “Latino youth are more likely than non-Latino white and African American youth to marry young. One eighth (13%) of Latinas 18 and 19 years old are married.”
And that’s troubling because not having a lot of life experience (or, honestly, options when it comes to men) can render a young person ill-equipped to deal with all the duties and pressures that come with being married. There’s the risk of focusing on this very important and extremely stressful commitment at the risk of letting other factors - like education, friendship, interests, family - slip away. And that’s without even thinking about how the possibility of having children would weigh on a person’s life.
And while Kevin Jonas and thus, by association, his girlfriend, have had opportunities to travel the world and take on very adult roles, his fans have yet to. His life and the circumstances surrounding it are so different from those of the girls holding up signs at his concerts.
We know that, currently, we are nowhere near being as settled or mature as we’d ideally like to be in order to be someone’s wife. Of course… We don’t wear purity rings. You know? Might this have factored in Kevin and Danielle’s decision to marry young? Who knows. But we hope that his fans at least think about this before assuming that this sort of courtship is best for everyone.
Either way: Congrats to the couple. We’d send a picture of ourself taking a picture of ourself giving a thumbs up, but the dog ate our camera.

She does look like Haylie Duff! I thought the same thing when I first saw the photo of her.
It’s not an unromantic picture as so much as laying the foundation to introduce photography equipment during their romantic moments.
