Pure Romance Sex Toys Seek Latina Consumers
2 July 2009, 6:02 PM. By Alex Alvarez
Pure Romance, a direct sales company that features “romantic aids” (aka “toys and stuff for fucking”), is trying to recruit more Latinas by focusing on communities with a Latin American presence and offering bilingual consultants on hand to answer questions from potential clients. The company allows people of the vagina’d variety to purchase kits and hosts parties in order to demonstrate and sell products to other vagina’d indiviuals with the promise of earning “up to $1,000 a month.”
Oh yeah? Please. Don’t hand us a Silver Bullet and tell us it’s a Hitachi Magic Wand.
Having worked at something of a porny magazine before and being familiar with this sort of thing, we were immediately skeptical. While we think it’s great to encourage women to be in charge of their sexual satisfaction and provide a way for women to create a business of their own, a lot of these at-home sex toy party companies - and other such direct sales companies - can work like any other pyramid scheme, at the risk of putting you in debt. That they are specifically marketing towards Latinas now makes us wary, especially given the fact that they hired bilingual consultants.
If someone doesn’t speak English, it is easier for them to get sucked into something… sucky… especially if they don’t take care to inform themselves and approach things having to do with money with a healthy dose of skepticism.
So, Spanish-speaking people of the vagina’d variety: Be careful. Research possible business opportunities before committing to them, be on the defensive, keep in mind that we are currently in a recession and people aren’t so keen on buying pricey dildos and fuzzy handcuffs as they may once have been, and remember that if something seems to good (or easy) to be true, it probably is.
Ok?
Bzzzzzz.

I’m a Pure Romance Consultant and I love what I do. It’s always a good idea to research any business and I’m up front about how the company works with clients. I guess is the Boricua in me.
