rosie_rios03Rosa Gumataotao Rios, a Latina who may very well be wise, was been confirmed as the country’s new Treasurer this past Friday.

Rios previously served on the Treasury and Federal Reserve’s transition team and worked as Managing Director of Investments for MacFarlane Partners, a San Francisco real estate investment management firm. She has two children, and she looks like a soap opera star.

If you are excited to see a Latino’s last name on U.S. currency, however, you will have to wait a bit longer:

But don’t look for Geithner- and Rios-signed bills at an ATM near you just yet. The process of transferring the new signatures typically takes three months, a bureau spokeswoman said. The bureau must first receive the new signatures. Then they create a new series of bills, with new serial numbers and suffix letters, and they design a new plate — all before they begin printing new bills.

Of course, one could always just print out our own handy Guanabucks:

You are welcome.

  1. This lady has got one too many taos in her name. Maybe two too many. How’s she gonna fit that long ass name on a dollar bill?! I am vexed.

    • You need to be careful as to what your saying……i am not to sure weither if your parent ever thought you respect…….irregardless as to how you spell a person’s name, where they came from what matters is that they accomplish more things in life than you will ever be….and yes it’s coming from a true islander so before you say something that is VERY DISRESPECTFUL you better recognize…… we may be a small island or what statesiders say a”JUST A SMALL DOT ON THE GLOBE” but hey I AM DAMM PROUD TO BE A CHAMORRO AND WHAT?

It looks like she’s joined a brief legacy of Latina treasurers:
    34. Romana Acosta Bañuelos December 17, 1971 - February 14, 1974 Richard Nixon
    38. Katherine D. Ortega September 22, 1983 - July 1, 1989 Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush
    39. Catalina Vasquez Villalpando December 11, 1989 - January 20, 1993 George H. W. Bush
    42. Anna Escobedo Cabral January 19, 2005 - January 20, 2009 George W. Bush

Gumataotao, I believe, is a Guamanian name. Rosa actually happens to be my coworker’s sister.

Wait, is this another contestant on RuPaul’s Drag Race?

  6. Where the hell is Guamania!? Oh right, Guam.

    • WHAT IS YOUR FREAKIN PROBLEM……..OH WHAT I KNOW YOU DON’T KOW HOW TO BROADEN HORIZON’S….AND TRUST ME “ALJEJANDRO” I AM ONE GUAMAIAN YOU WOULDN’TWANT TO MESS WITH & MOST OF ALL DISRESPECT MY CULTURE, AND PEOPLE…..

      • I think my FREAKIN PROBLEM may be a result of my sense of humor. If she’s from Guam then maybe she’s (as you suggest) Guamaian. The term Guamanian (as other commenters above suggested) confused me because it implies she’s from Guamania. No disrespect to your PEOPLE, your CULTURE or your highness, dear princes.
