Running of the Bulls Bodycount Day Three: Lightning Strikes!
10 July 2009, 3:15 PM. By Chris Alonzo

An exciting day in Pamplona as they recorded one of their fastest ever– oh hang on. We’re being handed an update and– oh crap somebody was killed this morning. Sighhhhhhh.
A quickie explanation: the running of the bulls takes place every morning during the festival, but details about those injured are generally not released by the hospitals until the next day. The Bodycount keeps track of types of injuries and country of origin, so we’re actually a day behind. So today’s Bodycount, covering yesterday’s action, has kind of been overwhelmed by this morning’s tragic news.
We wrote a few days ago that we’d stop this whole endeavor if somebody died, but upon reflection we must rescind. The point of this, ultimately, is to mock the anachronistic Latino Manhood thing that people all over the world try to foolishly co-opt and celebrate. Remember Bruno Kirby running the corridor in his little red scarf in City Slickers? Yeah…
So The Bodycount is on, because the Running of the Bulls is on, and we’ll figure out what to do with the “score” for this morning’s tragedy once the hospitals release details about the other dozen or so people who were injured. Respect for the dead must not stand in the way of mocking the dumb-ass living. Onward.
Day Three boasted one of the fastest ever runs at a mere two minutes and twenty seconds, which means that if you were listening to a Bad Religion song to psych yourself out for the run, there’d still be a little music left over. That’s fast. Five injuries in all, but nothing to write home about. Oh, but wait until tomorrow!
