Running Of The Bulls Goring Death, First Since Matthew Tassio

A Spanish man, named Daniel Romero, has been gored to death by a bull during Pamplona’s annual running of the bulls. It is the first death in 15 years, since American Matthew Tassio was killed,  but really not that much of a surprise if you think about it; you are pissing off a giant ass bull.

The bull, named Capuchino, got separated from the pack and charged, disoriented, at the crowd. Apparently, when a bull is by himself, he is more dangerous and goes into the DeNiro-like Raging Bull mode. Romero was gored in the lungs and neck and died shortly after being taken to the hospital. Several other people were also injured by Capuchino and had to be treated by paramedics.

In the end, this death is a reminder that the running of the bulls is an incredibly dangerous activity, but then again, that’s the point. If you baby proof any activity either for fear of death, injury, or because tourists can’t run, it takes away the thrill. Part of the rush of jumping out of the plane is the fear that your parachute may not open. The running of the bulls is going to continue in spite of this death, though some have called for their suspension. Romero took his chances by fucking with a bull and that is his right. Sometimes you eat the bull and sometimes the bull gores you.
