Sotomayor Confirmation

With Sonia Sotomayor poised to become the first Latino on the United States Supreme Court, everyone is firmly focused on her Puerto Ricanness. That’s why Republican leaders are very stealthily resorting to painting her as an overly emotional female by bringing up her “passionate,” “feelings” in their opening arguments. Feelings that another judge–federal judge Richard Paez who’s Mexican, Morman & male–claims he has no problem putting to the side when he dons his robes. Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) even remarked that, “Unless you have a complete meltdown, you’re going to get confirmed.” Well, let’s hope she’s not on her period this week.

Then there were the inevitable sports metaphors, usually designed to make women feel left out. But not this woman. She’s a sports loving ho. (She single handedly saved Major League Baseball, don’t you know.) Even Senator Chuck Schumer, (D-NY), rushed to her defense, in his opening statement, by assuring the other gentleman on the committee that Sonia Sotomayor has no problem with balls flying in her face or, er, something.
