Pretty Ugly: Viewers Get To Vote On Ugly Betty’s Makeover
31 July 2009, 1:45 PM. By Alex Alvarez
For season 4 of the increasingly unnecessary Ugly Betty series, ABC execs are forming focus groups to determine how Betty’s makeover will look. In the original Spanish-language series, you will recall that Betty eventually learned to pluck her eyebrows in order to show a shocked world that inner beauty counts most when it’s on the outside.
For her new role as the fictional Mode magazine’s Associate Features Editor, Betty will either rock a look based around a pale pink Chanel suit, or a black dress with a ruffled V-neck. If she’s like any magazine editor we’ve ever worked with, however, she will be dressed in something we’ll never see because she never shows up for work.
Viewers will also be asked to weigh in on a new hairstyle for Betty, how her eyebrows should be styled, and whether she should finally take off her braces. The goal is to not make Betty’s transformation seem too drastic or removed from how a normal girl in her situation might dress, leaving beside the fact that no one in their right mind mixes and matches prints the way Betty currently does.
So. How do you see Betty’s transformation from weird, twitchy girl in the unconditioned hair to stylish, sleek person who will soon be out of a job since the magazine industry is dying? Share you thoughts, armchair stylists.
Here’s how we’d dress the new, revamped Betty:

I bet they’ll give her the generic soft wave extensions look (the kind most Univision female presenters use).
I would still keep a more tasteful version of the mixing and matching prints.
I agree with La Chita on the mixing and matching. I’d hate to see it go away completely.
The shoes you picked out are hella sexy.
Baker’s has some seriously hot shoes. And great sales. No snark intended, “Whore from the Future” is my preferred look in footwear.
If you are going to go with TopShop make it something (anything) out of the Horror Girl collection
I wonder if it’s a given that she’ll lose her glasses? Nowadays, you can be hot both with and without…
I can see her in the Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall/Winter ‘09 ready to wear…

What’s funny is for how “unstylish” she’s supposed to be, I’m pretty sure most of her wardrobe on the show is expensive and from designer labels.
