Round 13 of Guanabee’s Hottest Latino Journalist Cook-Off pits two television slickers against two reporters in the trenches. Who will win?

Jorge Ramos

  • Eligibility: Mexican-born anchor on Univision.
  • Claim To Fame: Cindy’s first love.
  • Why He’s Hot: His eyes kill us. Also, he’s really, really smart and he chastises Americans for being the only country in the world that thinks it’s a bad thing to learn more than one language.

Fernando Diaz

  • Eligibility: Staff writer for the ChicagoNow.
  • Claim To Fame: NAHJ rising journalist.

Maria Santana

  • Eligibility: New York Bureau Manager and Correspondent For Mega TV.
  • Claim To Fame: She was in a Gael Garcia Bernal/Diego Luna sandwich.
  • Why She’s Hot: Maria is spunky. She looks like she could kick your ass. And then report it on the evening news.

Cecilia Balli

  • Eligibility: Freelance journalist, frequent contributor to Texas Monthly.
  • Claim To Fame: She’s been covering the Juarez serial murders for years and has a book due out about it. Yes, she’s the real-life J-Lo to that godawful movie.
  • Why She’s Hot: She found time to work on her doctorate in cultural anthropology while covering said serial murders. She picked that degree up at Rice University in May. Looks and brains. Yowza.

this is some crazy stuff! hmm funny how Maria was up in the 50’s and now Cecilia is up and shes down??? and Maria’s pic is smaller this is not a fair contest! this is just another website that shows that Latinos dont do things fairly! not cool!….

Definitely something fishy going on here..there is some uber stalker trying to hijack the contest. How does Cecilia, who never got like 4 votes, whole contest, all of a sudden pull like 150+?

Same way Maria did. Friends and social networking.

  4. I don’t think it’s possible that Cecilia “never got like 4 votes, whole contest” if she made it this far.

Sorry Cindy you are correct. It was supposed to be “no more than 40″
Check these stats from your own Polldaddy site:

      6/16/09 - Santana Vs. Hinojosa, 137 Votes, Santana Wins 77% vs 23%

      6/17/09 - Balli vs. Colgan, 31 Votes, Balli Wins 71% vs. 29%

      6/30/09 - Santana vs. Ledo - 122 Votes, Santana wins 70% vs. 30%

      7/1/09 - Balli Vs. Guidi - 32 votes, Balli wins 56% vs. 44%

All of a sudden - Balli is pulling hundreds of votes, AND you guys spell SANTANA’s name wrong, AND you didn’t launch the contest like you have every other, AND no one seems to have nasty comments on any other contest but this one…there is either editorial bias (just look at the difference in bio descriptions) or someone is hijacking your contest.

I love that no one is questioning why Jorge Ramos is losing in his category…he is only one of the most accomplished Latino journalist not to mention one of the hottest. Hello! this is just for fun people…if you don’t like who is winning then get all your friends to vote.

Seriously people, THIS is what everyone wants to focus on today. Just turn on the tv- we are living in historic times for Latinos in this country- just turn on the tv as one of the most prominent Latinas is in the process of being confirmed to the Supreme Court- and everyone wants to focus on the stereotypes of old about Latinas just being “hot and spicy”.. what a shame!!!

Tranquilos, everyone! This is what happened: I became aware of the contest yesterday, posted a witty comment on Facebook, and my friends came out to support me. No rigging of nada. This isn’t to be taken so seriously. Plus, Maria has a huge following, and I think she deserves to win!

Thanks for contacting me Cecilia. YES, DOWN EVERYBODY!!!
I cannot believe that this has gotten soooo out of hand and I have asked my friends to please stop commenting on my behalf. I am a bit embarrased by the whole situation. I mean c’mon people, this is how these things work..same with me, I post something on facebook and twitter, my friends and co-workers get it, they pass it around and voila, hundreds of votes..I agree with Cecilia, this isn’t to be taken seriously..Plus, I agree with one of the other comments above, noone should be focusing on either of us- this is Sonia Sotomayor’s week!!!
Thanks to everyone on both sides who has voted, one thing is certain, the power of FB and the web is incredible.
And Cecilia, I have seen your work- it is amazing and you deserve to win just as much as anyone else here!!! I noticed we have some FB friends in common via Cornell, we should definitely connect.. I am just disappointed that I had to be introduced to you in this manner… lol..
PS- To the guanabee guys, the funniest thing about today is that a bunch of my friends have been e-mailing me wondering when I changed my name to Saldana ;-)
