Yo Quiero Taco Bell: Gidget The Taco Bell Chihuahua Dies At Age 15
22 July 2009, 2:18 PM. By Alex Alvarez
Gidget, better known as “the Taco Bell chihuahua,” has died of a stroke at age 15. She was one of two dogs who played the fast food chain’s temporary mascot until groups protested the ad campaign, saying it played on Latino stereotypes.
We’ll be honest and admit that we loved the commercials and never felt remotely offended by them. And now we just want to cry while eating a Nacho Cheese Gordita and Pintos n’ Cheese. Go in peace, my relatively hairless little friend. Go in peace. [Ed: Others of us who are Mexican hate Chihuahuas because they're ugly and found the commercials to play on Mexican stereotypes, but also to be funny in a surreal way. We just had no attachment to this dog, so meh.]
