saldana1Zoe Saldana, of Star Trek fame and, eventually, of Avatar, was on hand along with a select group of other women - including Sigourney Weaver - to lead a talk on the role of heroines in pop culture.

It was a given among those on the panel that Sigourney had created the archetype for the tough, focused and brutal sci-fi movie heroines we know today with her role as Ripley in 1979’s Alien. Sorry, Barbarella.

When the panel began to discuss why there happens to be such a scarcity of Hollywood roles featuring heroic women, Saldana offered some hope:

Women in Hollywood are all united in finding better projects, in fighting for better interpretations and better roles.

Really? Eva Mendes included?

When the topic shifted towards why there has yet to be a Wonder Woman movie (other than these although perhaps soon to be this one), Zoe pointed out that old geezers run Hollywood and that they want to see a hottie with a nice butt and bouncy boobs. She also said producers would need to make her a “Matrix-stye kung fu chick,” which we’re not sure was meant to be sarcastic. Because obvioussssllllyyyy the movie needs to be a take on 70s-era sexploitation films in terms of look and feel to play off the beloved TV series, or they’ll have to set it back in the 40s so Diana can fight Axis forces as originally intended. And she can be played by Dita Von Teese.

Or Zoe.
