A premature baby in Paraguay was found to be alive hours later right before he was taken to a funeral wake. The father's baby Jose Alvarenga discovered that his son was still alive after he heard a cry coming from the box where he was placed.
"I opened it to look at his remains and found that the baby was breathing," said the father. "I began to cry."
The baby has returned to the hospital and is currently in intensive care. The head of the maternal department at the hospital said that the doctor Richard Sotelo failed to check the baby's vital signs.
Sotelo said he attempted to revive the baby for an hour before pronouncing him dead. The pulse was so low that it was undetectable.
The tiny little thing weighed only 580 grams and the doctors say its a miracle the baby survived.
Below is a picture of the box that contain the baby's body when it was handed over to his family. Below that is the the death certificate.

ReplyA CARDBOARD BOX?? Seriously, a CARD BOARD BOX??
ReplyI know! I was surprised to see the box in which they delivered the baby's "dead" body, but thought I should abstain myself from making that a point in the story. Glad you pointed it out!
ReplyDude, my grandmother told me a story about how she went to funeral when she was like 7 during a Cholera outbreak in Havana. She said at the funeral the stiff sat up in his coffin...still alive. It scarred her so bad she demanded that when she died she be cremated.
ReplyThat doctor should be fired. They should sue him. What if they had accidently barried him alive? And especiallyin a cardboard box.
ReplyMy main concern is that vitals were not checked. How do we know that this has not happened before? What is going on with the ODoctorO who announced him dead? I mean really!!!! I am happy for the family and their blessings, just sorry that they had to go through all of that!
ReplyI am shocked to say the least. I am sure money did have something to do with this. I guess the hospital figured a poor family could not afford to pay for all that is need to care for such a small baby. Who are they to decide who lives and who should die. I wonder what damage has been done to this poor little baby by being left unattended all that time. If you didn't believe in miricales before, I am sure you do now. My prayers go out to this little one and his family. God Bless.
ReplyI want to know what this baby's status is today. Did he make it through the premie stage???
ReplyAlmost a year ago, I transported my premature "dead" granddaughter from the hospital in the big city where my dil was taken to be delivered immediately to save the baby's life (but wasn't) 5 hours back to our hometown - by myself - I can only imagine if I'd heard her cry on the way. Oh my! Oh, also, btw, they placed her in a nice wooden box (somebody voluntarily makes them for the hospital just for that purpose). And also every funeral home I talked to would then provide a nice little casket for burial, so, no, they don't have to be buried in the little transport box. On the other note, though, I do have a feeling that they possibly didn't too eagerly deliver my dil because she and my son were a young rather poor couple. I do wonder if things would have been different had I been there sooner, over their opposition and protestations of independence knowing how hospitals are (we'd always done that for our family) but was hesitant to step in as mother-in-law. I, too, do wonder how the baby made out, if it continued to live?
ReplyOh, I did forget; they did say that my granddaughter would have been a vegetable had she been born alive (my dil was sent there because her sugar had shot up quite high - like 400 or so); they did an A1C on her when she got there and said it had been like that for at least those 3 months and no, I don't think they did check her vitals when she was born because they had already determined that she would be born dead so they didn't expect anything differently and it never occurred to me to insist on it, I must confess.
