Where in the world were you, anyway?

A married Guatemalan woman faked being kidnapped so that she could extend her trip to Barcelona with a man she met on the internet.

The woman had arrived in Spain on July 22, leaving her boring old husband back in Guatemala. Beginning on the 23rd, her husband started receiving a string of text messages from his wife informing him that she and several other women had been kidnapped, taken to an unknown location, and were being sexually assaulted.

The Guatemalan Embassy alerted Spanish police to the woman’s disappearance - and the possibility of a kidnapping ring - on July 28th. After eventually being found by local police, the woman, taken to task for various inconsistencies in her story, admitted that she fabricated the whole thing in order to spend time with her internet lover. Subsequent medical tests verified that the woman had not been assaulted.

While her story is terribly romantic and all, this woman is part of a larger trend that sees people faking their own kidnapping instead of communicating their wishes and plans with their loved ones.

Take the story of Southampton, PA resident Bonnie Sweetin, who called 911 and her husband with lies that she and her 9-year-old daughter had been kidnapped by “two black men” who forced them into the trunk of their car. Sweetin used a friend’s name in order to fly with her daughter to Disney World:

Honestly? We’d probably lie our way into Florida if it meant staying at the Grand Floridian. (They have a tea room!)

Then there’s the story of 20-year-old Sara White, a Sacramento woman who faked being kidnapped to get out of a blind date. Like Sweetin, White said she’d been stuffed into a car by her assailants. White continually led police to different locations - including McDonald’s and her own home - all in order to avoid her date.

Seriously? Saying you have herpes is a much easier way to avoid going out. Trust.

  1. Damn, when ur lie results in police-led manhunts &/or the Guatemalan Embassy, u know u went too far. If that Sacramento chick faked a freakin’ kidnapping to get out of an insignificant blind date, I am truly scared to think of what she’s capable of saying to get out of say, an actual wedding.

And when will white women stop covering up their fucked up behavior by saying black & Hispanic men were the ones that attacked them?
