Harvard Launches Harvard Yard Clothing Line For Men. Confused? Allow Us To Help.

Our hermanisimos over at Anyguey have a few questions inspired by Harvard Yard, Harvard University’s new line of menswear for the man who enjoys crew, the Hamptons, and wearing shorts with little Scottish terriers or lobsters all over ‘em. “Is this the kind of guy women go for?” they wondered, nervously clutching at their popped collars. We decided to help them out by offering a little insight into what ladies think when the see a man in shiny loafers frozen mid-step in a plaid dad jacket.

Do girls prefer preppy guys?

Some do! One of the more positive aspects of dressing preppily is that it shows that a guy is thoughtful about his appearance and wants to present a polished image to the world. Preppy dudes are also often seen as educated, ambitious and filthily, disgustingly, offensively rich. These are good things. The downside is that preppy guys carry the stereotypes of being high-maintenance, self-absorbed and snobbish. Women who subscribe to this way of thinking may also label preppy dudes as being “prissy,” or less of a man. This, of course, isn’t a universal truth and men who like to wear preppy clothing probably aren’t interested in people who think this way in the first place. 

The preppy look - with its array of pastels and bright colors and heavy reliance on seersucker - can look great on a variety of different guys. Our advice to a guy who wants to dress preppily is to take care not to look costumey, and to make sure you like the clothes you’re wearing and not just trying to blindly follow a specific subculture. 

Preppy clothes are often erroneously associated with WASPs, even though plenty of Latinos across the world love nothing more than to rock some madras shorts and boat shoes. 

Does anyone want to dress clean cuttedly?

Lots of guys do. They also like to make up words. 

Or should we dress like a gangsta ass papi chulo?

If you want to attract girls (or guys) who are into gangsta-ass papi chulos, then dressing like one would be a wise choice. 

It might be a cliché, but your mom was right when she told you that confidence is really key to selling whatever look you’re going for. If you feel at ease in your clothing and comfortable with yourself, you’re probably going to come off as more attractive.
