"Achoo."
Alvaro Uribe, president of Colombia, has swine flu. Well he’s already a capitalist pig, thought Hugo Chavez. The president began to feel symptoms on Friday while attending a Union of South American Nations summit in Bariloche, Argentina where he was defending his decision to allow the U.S. to build seven more military bases on Colombian soil. The rest of South America is pretty much banded against the decision and, so, God has obviously struck Uribe down with this malady to make his point. But health officials say he’s not a high-risk patient and that he will continue to work from his computer. Of course, several South American presidents–including Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez–had the opportunity to shake hands, hug or swap spit with Uribe during the summit–as those Latin types are wont to do. So far, no one close to him has shown any symptoms and Colombian public health director Gilberto Alvarez says there’s no reason to isolate him. Shah. Speak for yourself, Colombian public health director. Here’s a list of leaders who were at the summit.
