2693735449_493b4074fdA study based out of Chicago has found that swine flu is four times more likely to affect black and/or Latino people to the point that they have to be hospitalized. Experts believe a possible reason for this may be that blacks and/or Latinos are more likely to suffer from asthma and diabetes, and these illnesses can wreak havoc on one’s defenses and make one more vulnerable to the flu.

So let’s go over some of the ways we’re totally screwed, shall we?

Which all means: We need to be vocal and stand up for ourselves when it comes to health care. We need to do research, understand the options that are available to us and - and this is important - we cannot be afraid to ask our doctors questions, to follow up, to ask them to be clear. And, of course, we need to make better choices when it comes to food and nutrition.

Come on, guys. Don’t let the white kids hog all the balloons from the doctors’ office.

  1. The existence of a study don’t necessarily make it so. Infection rates in Mexico City were, when adjusted for economic factors, pretty good predictors of infection rates in NYC. If you were to tell us what study (specifically) you are referring to I might be able to give you a better estimation of its value. That being more or less what I do.
