Maria Full of Grace star Catalina Sandino Moreno has been tapped to play the vampire Maria (True fact: We're secretly all named Maria. How Mike Huckabee figured this out is beyond us, but for that he must die.) in the Twilight vampire saga.
And, in case you were hoping for a complex character who kicks ass and stereotypes at the same time, maybe you should be reminded that this is written by a woman who equates stalking and possessiveness with romance:

Maria Full of Grace star Catalina Sandino Moreno has been tapped to play the vampire Maria (True fact: We're secretly all named Maria. How Mike Huckabee figured this out is beyond us, but for that he must die.) in the Twilight vampire saga.
And, in case you were hoping for a complex character who kicks ass and stereotypes at the same time, maybe you should be reminded that this is written by a woman who equates stalking and possessiveness with romance:
Her character is described in the book as a “little black haired girl whose features were clearly Mexican” and “was porcelain in the moonlight.”Oh what a cute little token-thing. You just want to tuck her into your pocket and feed her Bufi Limon through an eyedropper. By "clearly Mexican," we're sure author Stephenie Meyer means her features were like those of Anahi - slim with light eyes and thin features. Or maybe she looks like Friday Kahlo - dark with heavy brows. Or maybe her features more closely resemble those of U.S.-born activist Dolores Huerta. One thing is for sure, though. It's a good thing she's one of those "pretty Latino" people, all porcelain skin shining in the moonlight while she draws on her eyebrows and adjusts her hoop earrings. And, just as white girls struggle to remain pure in the face of twinkling vampire cock, so do Latina vampires concern themselves with procreating as much and as quickly as possible. Of course, she doesn't physically give birth to vampire "newborns" - because that would be obvious and distasteful. She just tries to create as many as possible and then kill the ones she doesn't want with the help of a white dude named Jasper. My hero:
Maria found Jasper during the Southern vampire wars. At this point, Jasper was a major in the Confederate Army, and Maria was looking for humans that she could turn to vampires to create a newborn army, using the idea pioneered by Benito. After turning Jasper, she found that he was extremely useful to her, because he was able to control the emotions of the vampires around him, and make them work together. With Jasper and her sisters,Nettie and Lucy, she was able to take over many Mexican territories previously owned by other vampire clans. Jasper was very close to Maria, and Jasper thought of her as a God-like figure. Jasper was rewarded by Maria, especially for helping her defeat Nettie and Lucy when they rebelled. One night, Maria ordered Jasper to "purge" the newborns, which meant for him to kill all of the newborns that showed no potential. It made Jasper sick to do this, and so Jasper later ran away with two other members of Maria's army, Peter and Charlotte. We cannot wait not to see this.

Maria sounds a lot like you. Porcelain skin, black haired girl...
ReplyI don't remember a Maria in the book (or any person/undead of color for that matter)... but then again, I read this series when it first came out and before Hollywood got a hold of it and turned it something worse than it was. *shakes head*
ReplyI'm not a Maria!! :)
ReplyI thought all the Latinas were named Concha, all my tia's are Concha
ReplyIt describes thousands of people, but not me. My hair is naturally brown, currently red.
Replylmao!! Conch is such a funny word in english
ReplyMaria Maria - She reminds me of a West Side Story.... Latinas know they are not all Marias but America thinks we are.....
Replysadly my moms name is maria.. and she hates it. everyone calls her by her middle name. and even though my grandmas name isn't maria, we call her grama maria (behind her back of course, cuz then she'd have a shit fit)
ReplySame with my mom! She actually legally made her middle name her first name when she got married because she disliked "Maria" so much.
ReplySay it soft and it's almost like praying.
