9/11, Never Forget, Because These Terrible Songs Will Haunt You
11 September 2009, 5:23 PM. By Cindy Casares
One thing that often comes out of great suffering is incredible art. When the Iraq War began as a result (why?) of the attacks on the World Trade Center, we thought, well, maybe at least now the music won’t suck. We had visions of Bob Dylan-style anti-war songs. But no. No. We got these really cringeworthy 9/11 songs instead. Not surprisingly, they’re all country music. Not good, old-fashion Bob Wills and His Texas Playboys country music. No, country music of the Nashville variety. Grab your insulin, boys. It’s about to get real syrupy in here.
“Have You Forgotten?”, by Darryl Worley
Here’s a sample of, “Have You Forgotten?”, Lyrics
Have you forgotten when those towers fell?
We had neighbors still inside
Going through a living hell
And you say we shouldn’t worry about Bin Laden.
Have you forgotten?
“Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?” by Alan Jackson
I’m just a singer of simple songs
I’m not a political man
I watch CNN, but I’m not sure I can tell you the difference in Iraq and Iran
“Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American),” by Toby Keith
This song should probably be renamed “The Ugly American.”
Check these lyrics on “Courtesy of the Red White and Blue”
Justice will be served
And the battle will rage
This big dog will fight
When you rattle his cage
And youll be sorry that you messed with
The U.S. of A.
cause well put a boot in your ass
Its the american way

Do NOT knock Toby Keith. He may be the ONLY republican I like! :)
Great post; thank you for this. I’ve written my own personal remembrance here:
http://www.ex-united.com/united-airlines/remembering-911-eight-years-on/
We must remember and pray for the victims and their families. The story of Deora Bodley (youngest victim on United 93) and her father is especially sad and touching.
Next, we as a nation must vow to never again let ourselves become something worse, for what we’ve suffered. If we do, bin Laden wins. We must unite again, and be “that shining beacon on a hill” for the rest of the world. God bless.
i live in the dixie south and here people have no problem using songs like that to justify really ignorant ideals (Fave quotes on facebook are proof)… yet they don’t have a problem with thousands dying in Iraq b/c of it.
