This just in: Cindy will be at the LA meeting and San Antonio is in serious danger of getting canceled if we don’t get a few more sign-ups. So far, we have only one.

Hey Guanababies, if you live in or around Los Angeles, San Antonio, New York City, San Francisco or Austin, the editorial staff of Guanabee is planning a little meet-up/focus group for a few readers in each city. This is your chance to tell us what you like and don’t like about the site and, even more exciting, your chance to meet one of our Guanabee editors. Daniel Mauser will make a special pilgrimage to Los Angeles, Alex Alvarez and Daniel Mauser will be in New York, Alejandro Paz of Anyguey will be in San Francisco and Cindy Casares will be in Austin and San Antonio. So, email us at tips@guanabee.com if you can be in one of those cities in the next few weeks and we’ll arrange the date. It’s guaranteed to be awko taco for everyone involved! (Which is why drinks and snacks are on us.)

I was planning on going to new york next week.. but it got canceled because I dont have money… but if you give me a place to crash, I’ll meet up with She-Alex & Mr Mauser.
If not I guess I’ll settle for He-Alex…

Just that if drinks are involved not sure how much meeting/focusing will get done.

I’d like to drive 12 hours to NY to tell Alex Alvarez how much I think the site needs more pictures of Alex Alvarez, but I’m sure that would just put me on the slippery slope towards a restraining order.

no offense, cause really i like the writing here, but kinda sucks guanabee STILL has no writers out of LA or OC, the area with the largest concentration of latinos in the US, and, arguably, the area with the most interesting demographic and cultural dynamics going on. Speaks volumes. Not to mention how the absence explains the disproportionate posts still arguing the cuban revolution. let it go. anyways, too bad neither alex of the red eyes not cindy will make it out to so cal — can we take a collection and fly one of you out here? i promise not to wear my che t shirt or flash my mecha card.

    • If you keep your word about the Che shirt and promise to find some way of procuring a ticket / housing / tacos, I would surely head out there. I’ll be the one with the flaming red eyes chanting “CUBA SI, CASTRO NO.”

    • This just in: Cindy will be at the LA meeting.

And Regarding the Cubans: Aren’t you being just a little hypocritical with your total disregard for the east coast Latinos? You want representation, but would deny others theirs? Come, come now. I know you’re way more cosmopolitan than that.

      • (+1)

forgive my inarticulate rant. let me clarify: i love my east coast cuban brothers and sisters (ilena ros lehtinen notwithstanding), just a bit tired in cold war era debates. more interested, for instance, in why didn’t george staphanapolus ask obama about juanes like univision did? and even better, what about obama even knowing who juanes is? and, finally, to prove my cuban loving bona fides: go pitbull.

  21. As a native San Antonian, I’m both honored that you are going to my hometown and saddened that I left that hellhole a long time ago and will thus not be able to visit (I kid I kid, it’s not a hell hole just a douche-bag filled baby making factory). My problem is, I move around too much. Will you be in Billings, MT or St. Louis, MO anytime soon? Thought not.

    • San Antonio is about to get canceled cuz only one person has signed up. And after they bitched at us to open a meeting there, too. Where are all you San Antonio belly achers?

      • They’re too busy at the gym, then putting body kits on their rice rockets, then watching Monday night football. (I kid, I kid)

  22. (+1)

oops. typo. i mean alex “nor” cindy, a visit by either would be badass…

You don’t have writers based in Austin either, but Cindy plans to travel there, from NYC. So, as others have asked before, why not LA instead of San Fran? Why not San Antonio instead of Austin? Hmm…sounds like you guys are trying to exclude certain types of Latinos. Kinda sad. :(

Cindy lives in Austin; Alex P. lives in San Francisco. Daniel and I are in NYC. That’s why those are the meet-up locations.

And if you mean we’re trying to exclude Latinos who are paranoid, then: Yes. We are.

Update: Aw, see what we did for you? Come walk your talk and let us get you drunk.

  33. You found us out!!!

  34. (+1)

So, uh, what exactly is the perceived difference between NY-SF-Austin Latinos and San Antonio-LA Latinos?

  35. not a mind reader, but i bet it has something to do with the fact that the cost of living is MUCH cheaper in SA & LA (area). but if i’m wrong, please feel free to correct me.
