hounolJenni Rivera, video star, has remained unapologetic following her decision to flirt and possibly have given alcohol to a 29-year-old man with Down’s Syndrome during a concert in Acapulco.

Now, the young man’s sister has come forward in Jenni’s defense, telling Escandalo TV that her family felt Jenni had done nothing wrong.

Jenni offered her own defense:

You guys created the scandal, but the sister who raised him for 29 years is very happy and he’s happy. He’s beyond ecstatic, and it’s just sad that people can’t just say, “Jenni Rivera made a young man with Down’s Syndrome’s dream come true.” They think everyone with Down’s is a child at 29 years old. You just want to put out bad news because bad news sells. But the truth is I mad that boy’s dream come true; I entertained him and he felt like a king that night.

She practically brought him back from the dead, people.

Anyway, what do you all think of what Jenni did? Was it a nice gift to a fan, or an example of exploiting someone who is handicapped for a few laughs?

  1. Santa Jenni, soon to be immortalized on airbrushed t-shirts at Swap meets all over the U.S. On a side note- why does she dress like a cross between a streetwalker and a homegirl?

I don’t care for Jenny Rivera at all, but she’s right people that have Down’s syndrome are usually treated like children, & they’re not. They’re very smart very gifted people who happened to have special needs. I have a niece who is 25 yrs old and she knows she’s different but demands to be treated like an adult, her mom has made sure all her life that people see her like Vanessa & not a person with Down syndrome. She has had sips of margaritas that we may be drinking at weddings & she has never been hurt act differently or gotten drunk. Vanessa had graduated from H.S. attends college, works part time and knew that at 18 she could vote, and has voted she knew that at age 21 she can drink & she has had sips of alcohol here & there. Most of the time disliking the taste, & reminding you that alcohol makes you gain weight. LOL Moments like the one Jenny Rivera did to this YOUNG MAN, have a huge impact in their lives. People with disabilities remember so many things that a person like me considered “normal” are amazed with their memory. I don’t care for Jenny Rivera but what she did was harmless, & making him feel like a King that night… will be a memory that he will never let go. If his family didn’t have a problem with the situation I don’t see what the big deal is.

Jenni is using the disabled people to try to make herself look better.
IF Graciela Beltran would have given a disabled person alcohol Jenni would be on Primer Impacto raising all kinds of hell!
Jenni is a self centered attention whore and she is ugly too.
Those fat legs and her shitty attitude turn me off.
That bitch needs to be giving Slim Fast out at her concerts instead of alcohol.
Her sex video needs to be posted under fat lady porn.
Nasty, she makes me want to vomit.

I have no idea who any of these people are, nor do I know the story — but people with Down syndrome and other disabilities often hold jobs, live more or less independently, and even date. Being treated as the adults they are is important. In my town, a small group of such adults are often taken to a bar by their helper. Obviously, the people in question are functional enough to handle a beer or two, and are supervised.

Many people make the mistake of treating people with disabilities (especially those which impair mental development) as children their entire lives. This is detrimental and ultimately does not work. Treat them as individuals, with their individual capacities and limitations taken into account.
