Eva Longoria Is Going Back To School For Chicano Studies And We Have A Look At Her Course Schedule
24 September 2009, 4:08 PM. By Alex Alvarez
Actress, producer, and oft-airbrushed spokesmodel Eva Longoria has announced her plans to head back to school in order to pursue a double major in Chicano studies and political science. She didn’t mention which school she was going to attend, but did tell Hola’s Mexican edition that she wanted to “learn more about the history of the country we come from.” That *you come from, no? There ya go.
Good for Eva! She does seem like quite the ambitious lady. We wonder what impact her studies will have her career and her work with the ALMA Awards. Will she end up working more closely with the NCLR? Will Desperate Housewives have a special episode for September 16th? Eva, who was born in Texas but whose family hails from Monterrey, has already taken on her first role in Spanish. Last month, Eva traveled to DF to work on Days of Grace, a film about kidnappings in Mexico. But will it overtake her work in 1008’s Over Her Dead Body as best cinematic performance of all time?
Time will tell. In the meantime, we managed to get our sticky paws on Eva’s upcoming course schedule. Take a look:

chicano studies.. that reminds me of highschool, it pisses me off.
she’s going to cal state northridge. home of the fighting matadors.
Huh, I thought Eva’s family were Texans for many generations. Hasn’t she spouted that line that “we didn’t cross the border, the border crossed us” before?
Good for her though, that’s actually quite commendable. I guess now “going to grad school” is the new “going to college” for celebrities. Cf.: MFA candidate James Franco, MPH candidate Christy Turlington, et al.
Now I like her.
I also like Greg Giraldo, don’t understand why he isn’t more popular.
Hey, hey, hey! Speaking of college… I just completed my second Master’s degree and I’m having a huge party this Saturday night. If you’re in DFW, you’re invited!!
Except Eva. She’s not invited to my anything. :)
I also thought she was a dyed-in-the-wool Texan (or Tejana as some of them liked to be called). I guess she’s not. No self-respecting Texan would be caught dead getting involved in Chicano studies. God, when will Chicano studies programs across the country just die?
Also, some Mexicans don’t like her. They were pissed when she mentioned playing Dolores Del Rio. What a joke! She’s not worthy. And that’s putting it lightly.
Please enlighten me, why should Chicano Studies programs die?
Here’s what I don’t understand. Eva claims that she grew up in Corpus Christi Texas on a f’ing farm and was raised by Mexican parents so why does she have to study the plight of Mexican Americans or Chicano in the U.S. Was she oblivious to her experiences? This bugs the heck out of me and btw both of my parents immigrated from Mexico and I grew up in Los Angeles County. But Chicano is not what I consider myself.
Also that term Chicano bugs the hell out of me. To me it’s damn close to calling me a cholo.
Eva, did you read Acuña’s Occupied America for inspiration? What’s next the militant MeCHA or MAPA or both??!!!
Re: “No self-respecting Texan would be caught dead getting involved in Chicano studies. God, when will Chicano studies programs across the country just die?”
Oh my God, what a sad comment. What do you have against us learning our own history? Maybe Texas could use some Chicano Studies classes so you guys don’t turn out any more Uncle Tomases like Alberto Gonzalez.

Another crazy comment. Let me get this straight. She shouldn’t study her own history because her life experiences should be enough. WTF do you guys have against education? Why does it scare you so much? And she isn’t studying anybody’s “plight.”
