Get Schooled TV Special Iz Lyk So Much Kewler Than Barack Obama’s Speech For Students
8 September 2009, 2:03 PM. By Alex Alvarez

Like safe sex.
In conjunction with the speech President Obama addressed to the nation’s students today, Viacom will be airing a special TV event about education across 20 networks. The project, the campaign which states, in a someqhat tongue-in-cheek fashion, that cable is here to teach you how important school is, is being promoted by a slew of celebrities whose fame, success and money have nothing to do with their education.
Check out the promo:
Get it? “Get Schooled?” Now let’s take it Old Skool with Ashley Tisdale:
It’s refreshing to see parents get a shout-out via Viacom networks through a poorly-delivered celebrity promo. This will really speak to the cast of 16 and Pregnant and help them to make sure theirs children is properley edukated. Maybe they can grow up to be bloggers! Or movie stars! Or rappers! At least, to his credit, Lil’ Wayne is currently enrolled at the University of Houston, where he plans to major in political science:
Listen up, parents. Maybe someday your children, too, will grow up to be the next Faulkner, penning such lines as:
Shawty wanna thug
Bottles in the club
Shawty wanna hump
And ooh I wanna touch your lovely lady lumps
She wanna lick the rapper
A pun that’s make Shakespeare totes jeals fer sure. Anyway: Ugh. Maybe, Parents of Amerika, your kids will do better to read the transcript of the president’s speech instead of learning that materialism, celebrity worship and the promise of fame are reasons to become invested in one’s education. But we can totally understand if stuff like:
So today, I want to ask you, what’s your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make? What will a president who comes here in twenty or fifty or one hundred years say about what all of you did for this country?
Your families, your teachers, and I are doing everything we can to make sure you have the education you need to answer these questions. I’m working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books, equipment and computers you need to learn. But you’ve got to do your part too. So I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don’t let us down – don’t let your family or your country or yourself down. Make us all proud. I know you can do it.
…is a little boring. Besides. Who cares what your family and your teachers think if your efforts aren’t broadcast on cable TV?
