Jose Mar Flores Pereira Is Your Aeromexico 576 Hijacker Crazy

Jose Mar Flores Pereira, a Bolivian Priest, is the man behind the Aeromexico Flight 576 hijacking yesterday. It seems he had a revelation that there is going to be a terrible earthquake in Mexico and he needed to get the president’s attention, pronto. He was inspired to hijack the plane yesterday because the date, 9-9-9, is the number 6-6-6 upside down. That’s putting your middle-school, heavy metal knowledge to work. Flores told reporters that he took the plane over with a fake bomb made of “a juice can with some little lights I attached.” Really, this story is kind of sad, no? Especially when you consider the fact that many passengers interviewed said they didn’t even realize they were being hijacked until the police drove up on the tarmac.

This also corroborates our earlier report that it was religious fanatics who had hijacked the plane. (It always is, no?) But, it seems that although Mexican authorities detained about 9 suspects, police later announced that only Flores was responsible. At least it wasn’t the drug lords or FARC or Belinda in a heartbroken rage over Giovani Dos Santos.
