Micheletti Willing To Talk With Zelaya After He Snuck Back Into Honduras

Llego Mel Ousted Honduran president Manuel Zelaya snuck back into his country Monday like a wetback into Arizona. It was cLazy. He rode a tractor, swam a river and finally was carried across the border inside the trunk of a car. He’s holed up inside the Brazilian embassy in Tegucigalpa now, where de facto president Roberto Micheletti is apparently trying to force him out by denying him papusas. Dozens of Zelaya supporters inside have slowly dwindled to a lonely number as diplomats and activists get hungry and the army’s guns get bigger and more plentiful. The defacto government imposed a curfew and opened up tear gas to force the 4000 supporters outside the embassy to go home. This morning, Colombian news site El Tiempo said Micheletti is willing to talk to Zelaya. As long as Zelaya recognizes the elections scheduled for November 29th. De facto Chancellor of the Government , Carlos Lopez, who read Micheletti’s message to the press also added that, “in no way does this signify a consent for Mr. Zelaya to return to the presidency.” So, like, uh, what are they talking about? The game? Now, Zelaya is claiming Micheletti planned to storm the embassy last night, kill him and then claim he committed suicide. Micheletti’s camp denies these allegations.

Meanwhile, Hugo Chavez is calling for a special session of the UN and Doña Hillary, as Micheletti calls her, is in support of Zelaya’s return, as is most of the rest of the world. But Honduras remains pretty split with a large part of Zelaya’s constituency believing he is trying to pull a Chavez by changing the term limits for his position to “forever and ever.”

I am loving that you guys illustrated this post with a picture of a masked policeman standing outside a Burger King defaced with ostensibly pro-Zelaya graffiti (Mel=Manuel? Llego Mel=Manuel Zelaya arrived?). Great depiction of the cycle of state-sponsored violence, profit-driven American intervention undercutting Central American history. Or maybe I just had too much coffee and am reading things that aren’t there. That’s probably it.

    • Mel is what they call Manuel Zelaya and all that other stuff: it was way too early in the morning for me to be that clever, but I’ll take the credit anyway. I just thought the graffiti showed that he had some support amongst the people. If you read the Honduran papers, they are all under Micheletti’s thumb calling Zelaya followers, rebels. How can you be a rebel for supporting the legally elected president of the country?

If you are a journalist it would be nice to show integrity and report as opposed to taking sides like everyone in CNN does all over the world. Anyhow, I justed wanted to remind Americans, from a humble honduran native, the Honduran people DO NOT DESERVE a marxist, Chavez wannabe who intends to REMAIN in power as a dictator. The referendum is just a COVER. Zelaya is also a thief, stole Lps 40 million out of the Central Bank. Did he share that with the poor? NO! He used for his horses, jewels, paintings and I’m sorry for his wife, a fling here and there. Hondurans deserve better and thank God the people saw through him. Those protesting , many have been paid. They have destroyed our capital, graffiting all over even the Cathedral. And the FOUR family owning all Honduras Wealth is PROPAGANDA and is a complete fabrication.

  2. Why is it that all Latin American security people feel the need to wear balaklavas. Creeps me out.

Please call your Dept of State office. USA bears much of the blame of what is currently happening. The Obama Administration is intent in re-instating a leftist thug who is backed by all the dictators and leftists in Latin America. Does this not speak volumes of all the meddlers?
Geez….never thought I’d see the leader of the free world become the leader of tyranny and sedition!
