Newt Gingrich’s New Hispanic Site Shows He’s Okay With Us Speaking Spanish, We Think
22 September 2009, 6:49 PM. By Cindy Casares
Gingrich Communications–a company owned by Newt Gingrich–launched an online news network for Latinos this week and, guess what? It’s bilingual. (In English and Spanish.) The site is called The Americano. Already we feel included. And it claims to “offer a more balanced view on all the issues that concern American Hispanics today.” Balanced views like this one, “[The Americano will] renew our commitment to American values, language and history as the prerequisite for U.S. citizenship.” Whoa. Inclusion terminado. But, then they goes ahead and say that shit in Spanish:
Renovamos nuestro compromiso con los valores de los Estados Unidos de América, su lengua e historia como prerrequisito para obtener la ciudadanÃa estadounidense.
Now we don’t know how to feel. They hate our mother tongue, but they went to all the trouble of telling us so in our language. We can just hear Newt’s pronunciation now:

The term “American values” is kind of vague, no? What does it mean exactly? So listen up Salvadoreans: less pupusas, more mac n’ cheese!!! Or no ciudadania for you!
Did you know that the paper application for US citizenship/naturalization has questions about “good moral character”? You have to disclose if you’ve ever been part of “The Communist Party”, whatever that is (question 9a!), and state whether you have ever been a “habitual drunkard” (question 22a!). It’s bizarre, those questions are like relics of another age.
