Guess what this finger smells like.

Why do we get the distinct impression that Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi would be really excited at the prospect of getting slammed by the Spanish press? At any rate, the P(i)M(p), whom you know by now to be a straight-up sexy nympho who frequently uses tax dollars to pay for (alleged) prostitutes who accompany him to his various homes, angered the Spanish media with certain remarks he made during a press conference in Sardinia.

The press conference took place after Berlusconi had sat down with Spain’s prime minister, Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero. Both left and right wing Spanish papers described the experience as something that must have been excruciating for Zapatero, and El Pais even named Berlusocni an “undesirable political acquaintance .”

Addressing questions about his fondness for the ladies - except those who happen to work in Spain’s cabinet, which Berlusconi described as being “too pink” - the Prime Minister said, “How is the prime minister of Italy, the country of great lovers, of Casanova and playboys, going to criticize the fact that there are female ministers?” Oh, how charming.

Berlusconi also thought it appropriate to add that “God’s most beautiful gift to man is women.”

Unfortunately, Berlusconi’s attitudes and platitudes are often seen as the norm for Italian men and other “Latin” (as opposed to solely Latino) people - like the Spanish and Latin Americans. The stereotype being, of course, that these men are all hot-blooded lovers who can and will hiss and whistle while crying out “bella!” or “mamacita!” Why would Berlusconi want to perpetuate this idea? We’re glad, at least, that the Spanish press (perhaps somewhat hypocritically?) called Berlusconi out on his comments.
