We Called It: Hugo Chavez And King Juan Carlos Forgive & Forget That Whole ¿Por Qué No Te Callas? Thing
11 September 2009, 10:47 AM. By Alex Alvarez
Yesterday we told you how South Carolina Rep. Joe Wilson’s cry of “You lie!” had become the long-awaited new version of “¿Por qué no te callas?,” the question posed to Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez by King Juan Carlos of Spain during the 2007 Ibero-American Summit. Well, today, Chavez and King Juan Carlos joined Spanish Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero - the man whom Chavez continually interrupted during the Summit, thus prompting the King’s outburst - for a little meeting of the minds.
This visit marks the end of Chavez’s international tour, which saw him visiting the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe. The men professed their support for one another’s nations and discussed energy relations. Then they finger painted and wove one another friendship bracelets. Chavez’s was lime green and pink, because those are his favorite colors.
Said Chavez of the visit: “It’s a trip for both business and pleasure. We’re meeting here as friends to talk about politics and the economy.”
He also noted that the King has grown a beard “just like Castro’s.” Obsessed much?
This means, of course, that Chavez only has one major nemesis left to conquer…
Our money’s on Homero.
