Eye Of The Beer Holder: What’s Beautiful In Brazil?

Much is made about how beeyootiful Brazilians are, how they’re all models formed of angel caca by God’s own hand, etc. But what do Brazilians find attractive?

Researchers from University Hospital of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro asked 20 health professionals, 20 artists, and 120 other non-awesome people to rate different pictures of the six women in terms of their beauty. For each woman, nose positioning was altered in a series of three image, with one depicting that nose at an average position (regular), and one each below (low) and above (high) the level of the upper eyelid crease. The study’s participants were asked which positioning the found most and least attractive, with more than half of the participants declaring a preference for the low nose positioning.

This is interesting because it differs from the higher nose placement favored by North Americans and Europe. Also interesting? According to this chart, Brazilians come in third in the world for plastic surgery procedures - right behind the United States and Mexico. (Although Switzerland is labeled as having administered the most plastic surgery by capita.) So a preference for a different standard of beauty than what most Americans might be used to doesn’t necessarily equate to less of an emphasis on attaining that standard.
