Woman Posing As ICE Official Steals Baby

A woman posing as an Immigration and Customs Enforcement official abducted a newborn baby after stabbing his mother several times. The baby, Yair Anthony Carillo, was born last Friday and taken from his Nashville, Tennessee home on Tuesday.

His mother, Maria Gurrolla, says the woman who took him was heavyset and blonde . Authorities believe the woman may have been stalking Gurrolla before the abduction, and have released a surveillance photo of a Kia Spectra that parked next to Gurrolla’s car at a Wal*Mart shortly before the abduction. They believe the car owner may have followed Gurrolla out of the lot and back to her home.

After the woman masqueraded as an ICE official to gain entry into Gurrolla’s home, she threatened to arrest her, then grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her multiple times in the neck and chest. An injured Gurrolla rushed to a neighbor’s home for help, leaving her children in the house with the woman.

The neighbor rushed to Gurrolla’s home to find her 3-year-old daughter, but the baby and the woman were gone. 

It isn’t currently known whether Gurrolla or her family are immigrants, but she does not have a firm grasp of English and required an interpreter to tell investigators her story. She’s been living in Nashville for at least ten years.

What’s terrifying is how easy it is for this to happen, especially when people who might not understand the legal system and are made tense or scared by the intrusion of a stranger into their home neglect to ask for a badge or other proof of identification. Or, Christ, a warrant to allow entry. 

We’re not sure we’d have left our kids alone in the house with knife-wielding maniac but, in any case: We hope baby Yair is promptly found and properly cared for and that he has as little memory of any of this as possible.
