picture-48It’s happening! Lin-Manuel Miranda’s In the Heights, the musical about Dominican-Americans up in Washington Heights, is embarking on its first national tour, and they’ve created a special promo video to get you all excited about it.

The promo is set to Jay Z’s “Run this Town” and everyone in the video is waving churros or dirty water hot dogs or something. Authentic!

Also: How cute is Tony winner (and Prince’s recent crush) Karen Olivo? This girl is going to have a bright future, believe us. In the video, she addresses how she is not in the cast that’s touring the country, mentioning she’s in “West Side Story now.” And you know what? She’s just ain’t going to straighten her hair anymore.

Plus? There’s a special cameo at the end of the promo. Watch for it:

I saw “In The Heights” last year, it was great. The fact that Platanitos and Presidente beer were being sold in the theater made the whole experience extra Dominican. Lin-Manuel has been posting those types of parody videos on his You-Tube channel (”usnavi”) for a long time, though. There was even an “Umbrella” parody starring the “Abuela” character, lol.

Neither Lin-Manuel nor Karen Olivo are on the show anymore, btw. They won’t be performing when they come to your town.

They’re claves, papa. Claves! You get a latino FAIL for that.

    • I missed that quick second at the beginning when they’re hitting them together and just saw them being raised in the air while the cast was walking. I can see your email address and will assume you’re the person who would know best. But? I’m not a papa, nor am I a mami.

Fair enough. But now that you mention it, I wish they WERE churros. Churros are delicious, and will no doubt be the food of the revolution.

  3. Looks like they’re not coming to Dallas. (Can’t totally blame them for that!) Guess I’m missing the show. Bummer!
