Latinas aren’t the only ones who get to either tell us much too much information about their cosmetic procedures or slyly deny ever having gotten work done. Male celebrities whose fan base consist of Latinos can also join in on the fun!

This week, two different tabloids feature two quite different stories on plastic surgery and male stars. They unintentionally serve to highlight the precarious balance between machismo and vanity exhibited by many men in the Latin American media.

Singer Camilo Sesto, 63, who is planning a farewell tour across Mexico and the U.S, says he’s never had plastic surgery despite having a face, well. Like this:

Sesto insists the only sort of surgery he’s ever had was a transplant, and not to his face. After receiving a new liver, Sesto said he “didn’t have it in him” to undergo any more procedures. 

And then there’s Marco Corleone, né Mark Robert Jindrak, who has wrestled both in his native United States and in Mexico. TVyNovelas followed him as he received botox to “fix” a crease in his brow. The article makes sure to mention he’s doing this “for his female fans,” lest you think receiving botox automatically makes him a fat ol’ queen:

It surprised us that he’d be so open about having the surgery done, but, then again, the article makes sure to mention it is for The Ladies and the surgery is framed in a way that makes it about getting rid of a problem (goodness knows we can’t be going around having wrinkles) rather than as being done solely out of vanity. Sesto’s article also makes frequent mention of his son, to show that, despite looking like a molten Barbie, he is virile and manly and able to shoot out sperm like no one’s business.
