Fort Hood On Lockdown After Shooting From Multiple Gunmen

UPDATE 5:30 PM: Major Malik Nadal Hasan has been named as the shooter who was killed by local police officers. HE WAS A PSYCHIATRIST. FOR THE ARMY. Awko.

UPDATE: 3: 51 PM CT: At a press conference live from Ft. Hood, Lt. General Bob Cone said that one shooter–who was an Army Major–was killed by local, civilian police at approximately 1:30 PM CT. He also said there are 12 dead and 31 people were wounded. A civilian police officer is among the dead and, to his knowledge, no children were killed. The wounded have a range of injuries. He also said that two more shooters were apprehended after the first shooter was killed and apprehended. President Obama and Texas Governor Rick Perry are set to hold their own press conferences momentarily.

UPDATE: 3:48 PM CT: KCEN is reporting 9 confirmed dead and that the captured shooter is an Army major with an “Arabic sounding name.” Gauche.

UPDATE: 3:40 PM CT: Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R) says she was told that 30 people were injured in this afternoon’s shootings. KCEN is hearing unconfirmed reports that there were shots fired at Kouma and Liberty Villages on post–two residential neighborhoods at Ft. Hood.

UPDATE 3:32 PM CT: Local, Killeen television station KCEN says that two shooters are in custody and there are rumors of a third shooter. KCEN also reports rumors of shots currently being fired at soldiers’ residences. Warning sirens are going off which could mean that there is still the threat of another suspect on post.

UPDATE: 3:04 PM CT: 2 Sources tell CNN that the second gunman in Fort Hood is “cornered”.

UPDATE 2:59 PM CT: Sgt. Major Jamie Posten reports to CNN that there were two shooters who fired shots into the soldier processing center. (He sounds very shaken up, too.) He cannot confirm or deny fatalities and injuries. It is not known whether the shooters are soldiers or civilians.

Breaking: Fort Hood Army base in Killeen, Texas–the largest military base in the world–just experienced a “mass shooting”, at approximately 1:30 PM CT, where at least seven people were killed and 12-15 more injured. One gunman has been apprehended, but it is possible that there were multiple gunmen.
