For a man who started out as an Elvis impersonator, Sandro De America sure managed to make an impression on his Latino fans. Sandro left us last night. He’d been having heart problems all year long, but his legacy will live on. We give you our top 5 Sandro videos:
“Boleto Para Pasear” (Beatles Cover)
Sandro y los de Fuego [Sandro & the Fire ones] was Sandro’s first musical project. A teenager pop act of sorts, Sandro managed to gain some fame thanks to Sabados Circulares an Argentinean variety show.
“Eres El Demonio Disfrazado” (Elvis Cover)
Sandro eventually left his teenage band to pursue a solo career. Elvis was a hot ticket then, so he went for the same image/style/music and successfully conquered his audience.
“Como Te Dire”
Sandro realized he couldn’t make a lasting career out of singing covers. Therefore he created his own image and started singing original songs. He went from being an imitation to his own brand.
“Rosa Rosa”
The crooning legend was unstoppable. Much so, he even ventured into movies. Hits like “Rosa Rosa” made him even more popular. He scored a few acting roles here and there.
“Mi Amigo El Puma”
His popularity eventually fizzled out. Other national acts like Pimpinela would eventually seize the now adult contemporary listening older fans. But make no mistake, Sandro left quite an impression that til this day still inspires a countless amounts of impersonators in Argentina. We leave you with this song for his amigo “El Puma.”
