Penelope Cruz is set to star in Manolete, a film to be released in France March 31 about the legendary Spanish bullfighter, Manuel Laureano Rodríguez Sánchez, who rose to prominence shortly after the Spanish Civil War and died from a goring in the town of Linares. Cruz, who's playing Manolete's girlfriend, actress Lupe Sino, is being criticized by the anti-bullfighting set in France for her participation. Meanwhile, in America, no one's ever heard of this movie because we're too busy anticipating her turn in Pirates of the Caribbean 37. Whee.

I've been wanting to see Manolete forever. There are about eight 2 minute clips on MySpaceTV and it looks sexy (the chemistry between them), even though bullfighting is heinous. If it ever gets released in the US please let us know - and yeah, in the meantime counting the days until POTC.
