I thought this was a joke, but then I like Googled it. Skin tone (or hue) has nothing to do with a person's culture. I'm guessing a sociologist is behind this money-making scheme.
ReplyEither you don't know about the days of the "flesh" and "Indian red" colored crayons, or it doesn't matter to you. I remember them well (born in 1973), and I think it's fantastic that there's a small set of crayons that includes a range of human skin tones in them (without having to buy the much-coveted 64-pack). This is especially useful in class or camp, where kids are often asked to draw pics of themselves or their families. I agree that the word "multicultural" doesn't quite fit, but I understand the marketing behind the term and I think the product is a great idea. Back to the image, though - HILARIOUS!
ReplyWhatever. Not one of the eight crayons above fits my skin tone, which coincidentally changes depending on my vicinity to Arizona.
ReplyOh wow. Now that you point that out, the colors are clearly useless.
ReplyAlso, who the fuck has a skin tone the shade of that white crayon?
ReplyNo one. Or the black one. You use the white and black to blend & lighten/darken the other tones. Remember coloring?
Replyi'm voting for an olive crayon for those of us mestizos in the house.
ReplyI like olives, they're tasty.
ReplyThey are people in Africa the color of the black crayon, so there's at least some validity in having it included. But seriously, not even the pastiest Cuban American is the color of that white crayon.
ReplyYou're talking about the fruit, right?
ReplyWhat else would i be talking about?
ReplyNever mind.
ReplyI am. I'm Scottish.
ReplyOh. Okay.
ReplyIs the US CODE UNCONSTITUTIONAL? US CODE TITLE 8 > CHAPTER 12 > SUBCHAPTER II > Part VIII > § 1325 § 1325. Improper entry by alien TITLE 8 > CHAPTER 12 > SUBCHAPTER II > Part VIII > § 1324a § 1324a. Unlawful employment of aliens WE DO NOT NEED IMMIGRATION REFORM. WE NEED IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT. ENFORCE THE LAW We should treat immigrants like Mexico does: At present, Article 67 of Mexico's Population Law says, "Authorities, whether federal, state or municipal ... are required to demand that foreigners prove their legal presence in the country, before attending to any issues." That would simplify things.
ReplyYou did "like Google" it though, so that makes, like, a ton of sense. Who cares if your skin tone isn't included in the colors? That's not the point...
ReplyWhat is the point then? I would really like to know. Otherwise, I'll assume it's just a marketing ploy geared at the Kumbayah folks.
ReplyThe only thing that doesn't work for me in the box set is that no one is officially as "white" or as "black" as those crayons.
ReplyOh yeah, blending colors...So, now there's gray people.
ReplyI think the white one is to use to blend the others to create more precise skin tones. I remember "flesh" and "indian red" well, and I think that one two down from the white one is what used to be called "flesh".
ReplySeriously, you are all taking this the wrong way. You'll never be able to get all the colors of skin; that's not even feasible. However, including more than one color for skin tone is and that's what Crayola did. Give it a rest. You are the same people who complain that things are not fair (for you of course) yet refuse to make changes that would allow a more even playing field.
ReplyI would just like to defend the field of sociology. I think it's unfair to assume that a sociologist would have determined the name for the particular package of crayons. Crayola probably could have done better if they had asked a sociologist because he or she could correctly explain how "Multicultural" is not the appropriate label for a package of crayons aimed at identifying multiple races. It's also true that the colors are not perfect. However, I think it can be argued that addressing and exposing children to the racially diverse nature of the human race, despite the obvious setbacks of this crayon pack, is better than letting children grow up thinking that a peach color is the only acceptable "flesh" color.
ReplyWhatever. And if I ever wanted an intellectual viewpoint on the concept of race relations, I would query a historian.
Replyis it just me, or does everyone else find this volker pellet dude unbelievable annoying?! luzer.
Replyare you all morons? I am sure there are some who may be enriched by your analysis of the skin tone crayons, but this is supposed to be a humorous analysis of SB 1070... "multiculteral", "multiracial", just giving kids a wider option to draw in colors that look like they do....who the ef cares.
ReplyPellet, you slay me, man! Your comments are ridiculous -- I don't know if you like arguing like an emo teenager because you're trying to get people stirred up, or if you're serious, but either way: hilarious! Your standing reply to anyone with any sort of opinion or insight other than your own is an empathic, "Whaaaaatever -- what do you know anyways? Clearly, not as much as me." Ahahaa! I mean, uh... whatever.
ReplyI for one found Volker's contributions to this discussion nothing short of ridiculous. Can't anything on the internet just be reflected upon with genuine interest without then proceeding to scroll down the page to read a bunch of irrelevant comments made by some trolling douche?
ReplyThank you very much! I will have a nice day in Arizona. =D
ReplyVolker, are you serious? You're taking the piss...right? I mean you realize it's a joke? Lighten up fella.
ReplyI am an emo teenager.
ReplyYep, I am annoying. Deal with it, or leave this site and never come back. Either way, I'm gloating.
ReplyI don't troll, I lurk in the bushes, hide out until one of you bitches makes a comment that I find disagreeable, and then I ambush y'all with my massive three-foot-long ... Tommy gun.
ReplyDamn right, I'm serious. Bitches, I ain't playing no more.
ReplyOf course, to be fully on-target, there should be a bunch of crayons trying to sneak into the box through the bottom flap.
ReplyScotts generally aren't that white. However I do need that white Crayon for my epic drawing of Michael Jackson
ReplyI think this is an informative post and it is very useful and knowledgeable. therefore, I would like to thank you for the efforts you have made in writing this article. best e cig
