Gloria Allred and her client Nicky Diaz Santillan, the former maid of California Gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman, have just read statements in a press conference, streamed live on TMZ, where they alleged that Whitman fired Diaz Santillan after she asked Whitman and her husband, Dr. Griffith Harsh IV, to help her gain legal status in this country after working for the couple and caring for their children for nine years.

According to Allred, Diaz Santillan's request for help and her subsequent firing coincided with Whitman's decision to run for office in June of 2009. Diaz Santillan also says Whitman never asked for her legal status in nine years, though Diaz Santillan's social security number had come up erroneous when Whitman's political team did a background check. Also, Diaz Santillan had previously told her employers that she could not travel out of the country. But it was not until Diaz Santillan made it clear to Whitman that she wanted to seek legal status that Whitman cut her off saying, "I cannot help you and don't say anything to my children. I will tell them that you already have a new job and you want to go to school. And from now on, you don't know me and I don't know you." Diaz Santillan will file a suit against Whitman for pay she says she is owed for overtime she worked and for mileage.

If the allegations are true, Whitman's employment of Diaz Santillan fly in the face of her anti-illegal immigrant stance. Last night in the guberantorial debate, Whitman reiterated her tough position on employers who hire illegal or undocumented workers.

Oh Meg! How could you let this illegal take the job of some willing American??!! Oh that's right, I'm sure it's not her place to "check" status. I hope this is completely true.

Do not be surprised by this Republican action. Republicans at all levels have shown no heart for our middle class workers, and the poor. They only have heart for Millionaires, Wall Street, Oil Industry, Health Care Industry, and American Bigots. One more reason to vote for Democrats on November! Can you dig it?
