Alejandro Gonzalez Iñarritu's Biutiful has been nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the 68th annual Golden Globe Awards. The film will represent both Mexico and Spain. Other films nominated in that category are The Concert from France, The Edge from Russia, I Am Love from Italy, and In a Better World from Denmark. We're going to go out on a limb here and say that between Javier Badem's star power, his Best Male Actor award at Cannes and the fact that we've never heard of any of these other films, Biutiful has it it in the bag.
Other nominees by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association include The Kings Speech, the British drama starring Colin Firth about the speech impediment of King George VI, which leads the pack with seven nominations, and The Social Network and The Fighter, tied with six nominations each.
In the Television category, Glee leads with five nominations and 30 Rock, Dexter, Modern Family, including Sofia Vergara for Best Supporting Actress, and Mad Men got three nominations each.
Carlos, the miniseries about Venezuelan revolutionary Ilich Ramírez Sánchez aka Carlos the Jackal, received nominations for Best TV Movie or Mini-series and Best Actor in a Mini-series or TV Movie for Edgar Ramirez.
Perhaps most shocking is the fact that Burlesque, yes Burlesque received a nomination for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy. Well, this is the foreign press.
