A group of Latino evangelical TV ministers in South Florida, from a network called TV Ondas de Amor, plan to protest outside a Miami Univision local affiliate on Saturday because of the Aqui y Ahora special Ricky Martin invterview with Maria Elena Salinas that aired on November 2, during which the singer talked openly about being gay. Not wanting to give them extra publicity, Blabbeando, who broke this story, decided not to name them, but we found out who they were through some poking around.  Here's an English translation of their press release (originally in Spanish) as per Blabbeando:

On November 2nd, 2010, Univision broadcast a program called: Ricky Martin... Without Secrets, in which he spoke of having his first sexual encounter when he was 15 years of age and that, after having slept with women, he had relations with men. Afterward he felt confused until one day when he was being interviewed he felt attracted to the reporter who was interviewing him. To the point of falling in love with that man. Presenting himself as being ultra-successful, showing images of his 10 million dollar house, riding a sport motorcycle through the streets, walking through the beach and then, showing images of his concert, in front of thousands of young folk, he presents himself as the role model to follow for the children who watched the program at the child friendly hour of 7 to 8 pm.

As people who valor the principles that gave birth to this nation, we have decided to say 'enough' with these shows that violate the innocence of our kids and promote confusion at a time in which our youth are developing.

Univision's complicity in transmitting this message deserves, on our side, our complaints before the FCC - the entity that regulates media in the Unites States - which says that any pornographic, indecent or obscene content can be reported as a complaint.

According to Blabbeando, on their website Ondas de Amor also call Ricky "the perfect 'paladin' to promote the 'homosexual agenda' and that, in his concerts, he always promotes homosexuality by shouting 'Long live la vida loca!'." Here is their televised press conference which they held yesterday.

They also published an article on a site called Christian Telegraph which lists the time and date of the scheduled event as Saturday, Decmber 18 at 10:30 am, (in case you want to stop by and say hi.)  It also has this to say for all of you in the Latino community:

These are not our Latin roots, and the Latino people of South Florida have decided to stand up and defend our family values. We do not agree that in times where families sit at the table along with their children, that they would have to listen to Ricky Martin explain how he first had sex with women and then felt confused, and now is in a relationship with a man.

The protest will be held in front of the Univision Channel 23 studios, located at 9405 NW 41 Street, Miami, FL 33178, and is open to all people of all ages, including children and babies. All are invited to attend, and send a message that we do not want this type of programming in our community, and much less at a time when children and teens are watching.

We hate nothing more than when another Latino presumes to speak for us in the name of some blanket generalization. In this case, the Latinos are Diego Jonathan Aguero, Marcela Kucharczuk, Oscar Aguero, and Stella M Aguero who own Ondas de Amor Ministries, Incorporated at 6050 W 20th Ave Hialeah, FL 33016. This would be a great time for a Too Wong Foo road trip to Miami. And though we don't want to assume that the ministers of TV Ondas de Amor are doing this for the ratings, we're pretty sure that they're this for the ratings. Stay tuned for the impending gay sex scandal about one or more of these Christians. It always happens.

Anything to get ratings. We don't need any more religious fanatics. There's something in the bible about those who are without sin, cast the first stone. Live and let live.

'We hate nothing more than when another Latino presumes to speak for us in the name of some blanket generalization... Stay tuned for the impending gay sex scandal about one or more of these Christians. It always happens.' Funny, we Christians hate it when someone presumes to speak for us and blanket generalizations as well.

I agree. This article's last statement is attempting to put us, the LATINO, under the same thought process. I hope the writers don't think we are dumb enough to just jump on that bus. If Ricky is equalling being gay with his success, than that is subliminal messaging. Youth's brains are not yet fully developed to discern between many things (just think back). Ricky's message is aiding towards a homosexual agenda and confusing young people. If he is gay-thats his choice as an adult. Why plant ideas into the youth? Not playing fair.

OMG, TV Ondas De Amos is the best name ever! Also, why did they wait so long to protest? Ain't nobody caring about this sh*t anymore. They should have done it BEFORE they aired the special.

It is disingenuous or ignorant (or both) to focus is on gays as the penultimate enemy of Christianity. What of the 10 commandments that are, essentially the top 10? No outrage and protest about keeping the Sabbath, stealing, murder and the rest of it. No outrage about straights coveting their neighbors asses. No outrage about kids not honoring their mothers and fathers. Anti-gay (NOT homophobia, one does not need to fear gays to hate them) framed as religious imperative is a big fat lie. If one hates gays, just say so, be honest about your opinions; but don't make false claim that it is because bible says it is a priority. That is a verifiable lie.

These religious fanatics don't practice what they preach. They criticize everybody but they never help anybody. Peace and Love.

I know I'm a minority here, but why you guys get so upset with all this? Have you even listened to what these pastors actually said? I listened to them, and they don't appear to be “mad” as the people who are talking or commenting here. Compare the language and the type of language you guys use? Who really seem to be the “haters”? Isn't it wrong for a 15 years old to have sex? We Christians simply believe in the God and the Bible, and there it says homosexuality is a sin. Doesn't nature itself shows that only with the union of a man and a women children are created? Homosexuality was considered to be a psychiatric condition just 20 or 30 years ago! Most gay people also suffer from depression and anxiety, and most are also sexually promiscuous. Look at AIDS! Where it came from? Sure this happens to heterosexuals too (sexual promiscuity), and to some “Christians” too, but at least if we sin in one or other way, we recognize we are sinners.

Just for the records, we Christians don't hate gays. We love gays and recognize that them (as us) are also sinners. We just don't brag about our sins (that's what makes homosexuality a very particular sin). If one of us have problem with alcohol, for example, we try to stop doing things that hurt us, but we never brag about drinking (and we can also make grammar mistakes by the way). Also, some other groups that call themselves Christians do hate gays, but then, like 65% of the US Population seem to identify themselves with Christianity. I can say from what I know from the Bible that God doesn't hate sinners. God love sinners but He does hate sin. EVERY form of sin. God also gave us a way out: Jesus. So if you guys want to keep calling us “haters”, that's all right, but at least now you know that's not truth. It might be truth with some Nazis, for example, who are first Nazis and --by the way-- also believe in God, but not the truth Christians. Truth Christians are a very small minority throwout history, but the impact has been global because God is with us. God does exists!

We have drugs wars and our civil rights being taken away in Arizona and this is what they choose to focus on? Can we just move on and get this special over with? It's interfering with my day-time talk shows and game shows with half naked, big-breasted, dancing chicas.
