People Boycott Pink Taco For Painted Donkey. Fine With Name, Apparently.

People are boycotting Pink Taco, a Mexican eatery in Los Angeles, because, for cinco de mayo, they painted a donkey pink, wrote "Pink Taco" on him and tied him to their store in Century City. While these are not the greatest uses for a donkey, we could think of other reasons to boycott a Mexican food chain named after vagina.

But no, it's not the crude reference to female genitalia that has Los Angelenos riled up. Nor was it Pinky the donkey's first appearance for Pink Taco in the below 2007 YouTube video that gives his back story as the missing "key performer in our live sex show who is scheduled to perform with Cha Cha the Latina hooker," voiced by a man with an over-the-top Mexican accent. Mexican stereotypes as a marketing device? No problem. Reference to women performing sex acts with animals? Who cares! It takes more than misogyny and bigotry to inspire a Facebook page. No, it takes, apparently, tying a donkey to a sign and, so, the "Boycott Pink Taco Century City" Facebook page was born yesterday. The predominantly female group is most concerned with the whereabouts of Pinky.

The controversy prompted Pink Taco to take down their Facebook page. (That'll show 'em.) And, after receiving a cease and desist order from the cops, they pulled the plug on the whole promotion. A woman very concerned with the case reported to OC Weekly that the cops said the paint on Pinky was non-toxic and the donkey was adequately fed and watered. So, everyone back to your regularly scheduled mockery of the sexual exploitation of impoverished Mexican women.
