The voters of Mesa, Arizona, a conservative suburb of Phoenix, have collected 18,000 signatures demanding a recall on Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce who sponsored the infamous Arizona SB 1070 bill and a host of other anti-immigrant and anti-old and anti-disabled person legislation.
Pearce, you might recall, authored Arizona SB 1611, the omnibus immigration law that ensures illegal immigrants are barred from driving in Arizona, from obtaining a vehicle license and registration, from attending schools from K through college, and from obtaining public housing.
He also has a history of cavorting with white supremacists and other documented racist behavior.
And though Mesa is a conservative voter base, even they think Pearce has gone far enough. If the signatures are verified, Pearce will have to run again in a special election against another candidate who has not stepped forward yet.
