Apparently Salma Hayek has been working on a Maria Felix biopic for years and she's finally putting the whole thing together. Not many details have been made public yet, but Oliver Stone and MGM studios are somehow involved. Cool, right? Well, sorta: Maria Felix, who passed away in 2002, was never fond of Salma Hayek. Now Latino chisme shows and their viewers are outraged -- OUTRAGED, I tell ya! -- because some believe Salma is not worthy of playing Maria while others think the complete opposite.

In the video above you can hear an interview with Maria Felix where she -- in many words -- calls Salma's portrayal of Frida Kahlo in Frida inauthentic. You see, Maria, according to herself, personally knew Frida while Salma obviously did not (Frida died before Salma was even born). In the same interview Felix, admitting she never met Hayek before, points out that there's no resemblance -- not physically, artistically or nuthin' -- between Frida and Salma. Maria basically takes a big dump on Salma, gets up, and doesn't even bother tossing no Charmin roll over to Salmita.

But that wasn't the only time Maria backhanded Salma. When she passed away, I clearly remember watching TV footage of Hayek walking up to Maria's funeral. Televisa producers dubbed the scenes with soundbites of Maria condescendingly referring to Hayek as "that girl that's trying to make it big in Hollywood." (Note: Maria tried to make it big in Hollywood too but she refused to take anything but a leading role which was never offered to her.)

Frankly, I don't care much for one or the other. Salma isn't Mexican enough to offend me with her acting and I've always thought of Maria as a classist bitch (she once told Lucia Mendez never to date a "guarachero" [guarache-wearer]).
