New Selena Quintanilla Music Feat. Selena Gomez, Cristian Castro, Camila [Audio]

Last year Abraham Quintanilla, Selena Quintanilla's dad, said he was working on putting out a collection of new, reworked, unedited Selena songs. Abraham also mentioned that the technical studio work was being handled by A. B., his son and fellow Selena band mate, which I wasn't terribly opposed to because, from what I understand, A.B. wrote some of Selena's best songs.

I love Selena and the thought of hearing new music by her made me quiver with excitement (I seriously thought about this at least once a week). Now, after months of waking in the middle of the night screaming "Is it here yet?!?!" while sweating beads of anxiety, the first cut of Selena's "new" music has been released and... it is terribly underwhelming. Here's why:

1) "Amor Prohibido" is not a new song 2) the original is a fine classic that should never be fucked with under no circumstances 3) looking past the desecration of a pop tune masterpiece, why was it turned into a boring, cheeseball ballad with vocals by Mario Domm, a douche with a combover and a nose ring? Seriously -- WHY?! Is making a couple of bucks really worth it? Have you no pride, Quintanilla's? Selena's catchy cumbia sound is what gave her an edge over all of the other bland singers that were performing cookie cutter pop songs during her time. This new version sounds like something pinche Anahi would sing.

And there's more: A whole new record featuring collaborations with Cristian Castro, Don Omar, and Selena Gomez  (I'm actually curious to hear Gomez's collaboration) is supposed to drop on April 3rd under the title Enamorada De Ti.

There's still hope, though; this is one out of three records Capitol is planning to release and the second two are supposed to contain some of them unreleased tracks I keep losing sleep over.
