Mexico, apparently, is running out of ideas on how to get logged into a certain famous book of word records. The latest attempt, getting a bunch of escaramuzas [Mexican cowgirls] together in Guadalajara, has more cultural weight than piecing together a gross-looking row of food and calling it "the world's biggest enchilada." But, sadly, it didn't take much to set a record; a measly 129 escaramuzas did the trick. I say measly because comparing 129 cowgirls to the 10,000 zombies that gathered in Mexico City last November makes for a sharp contrast.

I love escaramuzas. If you're not familiar with them, this one mother nailed the essence of the concept with her description:

"Escaramuzas are part of La Charreria, a Mexican rodeo circuit. One escaramuza mom describes the practice as a "hybrid of Mexican and North American equestrian arts" and "something akin to a ballet on horseback."
