There’s a great in-depth story on Sheriff Joe in the July 20 issue of the New Yorker. I live in Arizona and I didn’t know the extent of his connections with the 287(g) program until I read it. It’s scary how much some people here love him. Online comments on local news sites are filled with crazies who can make any issue about immigration or “ILLEGAL ALIENS” or “ANCHOR children” or grand conspiracies that they think Mexicans have to take over the U.S. I’m glad I’m getting out of here soon.

Peron had plenty of problems, but I don’t think you can go so far as to blame him for the Dirty War, especially since he was dead during it. The military was against Peron when he came back and there were killlings on the right and the left. Once the military was firmly in power, they had parties and used Evita’s embalmed body as a centerpiece.
